Khobar – Mouwasat Hospital

In a groundbreaking medical achievement and a first in the Kingdom, the surgical team at Mouwasat Hospital Khobar, led by Dr. Sami Al-Asari – Consultant in Robotic Surgery, Oncology, and Bariatric Surgery, successfully removed a rare retroperitoneal pelvic tumor from a woman in her twenties using advanced robotic surgery technology.

Case Details

The tumor measured approximately 18 cm and was located deep in the pelvis, surrounding critical structures including arteries, veins, nerves, and the ureter, extending to the pelvic floor behind the rectum. This made the procedure an extremely complex surgical challenge.

The patient had been suffering from chronic pelvic pain, and after thorough diagnostic evaluation, robotic surgery was chosen for its high precision, enhanced visualization, stable instrument control, and superior flexibility of surgical tools.

Successful Outcome and Benefits of Robotic Surgery

Thanks to Dr. Al-Asari’s expertise and the advanced robotic system, the tumor was meticulously separated from vital organs without causing any damage and was completely removed. The patient has fully recovered and is currently under follow-up care at Mouwasat Hospital Khobar.
