The medical team at Mouwasat Hospital in Al-Khobar successfully performed a complex procedure to remove a large tumor from the right kidney using advanced robotic surgery for a patient in his twenties suffering from chronic kidney failure.

The tumor was discovered during routine dialysis sessions, when the nephrology consultant noticed abnormal indicators that prompted further advanced imaging. Based on the results, the case was referred to the Urology Department to complete the medical evaluation and confirm that the tumor had not spread.

Examinations revealed a tumor exceeding 12 centimeters in size, pressing on the inferior vena cava, along with enlarged lymph nodes on the renal artery and vein—a situation that necessitated a highly complex surgical intervention.

The surgery was performed using an advanced robotic surgical system through four small incisions, each no more than 8 millimeters in diameter. The tumor, kidney, and surrounding lymph nodes were removed through an additional 5 cm incision. The operation lasted approximately two and a half hours, with minimal blood loss of less than 100 milliliters.

Thankfully, the operation was a complete success. The patient’s vital signs were stable post-surgery, with no complications recorded. He continued dialysis sessions after the surgery and was able to leave the hospital shortly thereafter.

This operation represents a major medical achievement that highlights the expertise of Al-Mouwasat’s medical teams and reflects the advanced level of surgical technology being applied, especially in handling complex cases.

This success aligns with the vision of Mouwasat Medical Services Company in attracting top-tier talent and subspecialties while utilizing the latest in medical technologies and equipment.
