A New Medical Milestone at Al-Mouwasat Hospitals – Urology Department - Successful Robotic Surgery (Da Vinci)
A patient presented to the Urology Department at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam with a large malignant tumor located in the central part of the right kidney. While other hospitals had recommended traditional open surgery for complete kidney removal, the patient chose to seek care at Al-Mouwasat Dammam, given the strong reputation and high surgical expertise of the hospital’s urology team in handling such complex cases.
The case was managed by the Urology Department under the supervision of Dr. Adel Farhat, Consultant Urologist and Head of the Department in Dammam, in collaboration with Dr. Ahmed Khasheem, Consultant Urologist and Robotic Surgeon at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Al-Khobar. Together, they reviewed the case thoroughly and completed all necessary preoperative assessments.
The surgery was successfully performed using the Da Vinci robotic surgical system to remove the affected kidney. This type of surgery is considered highly complex, especially when dealing with a large tumor and altered anatomical conditions affecting the kidney’s blood supply. Such cases require a high level of precision and advanced skills from the entire surgical team. Thankfully, the patient made a full recovery and was discharged in good health, resuming her normal life.
It’s worth noting that this type of procedure utilizes cutting-edge medical technology and a highly trained medical team - aligning with Al-Mouwasat Medical Services Company’s vision to attract top-tier talent and subspecialties, while continuously integrating the latest medical technologies and advanced equipment in the healthcare field.
