Pin Removal from the Trachea of a Child and a Woman At Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Al-Khobar
The medical team at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Al-Khobar, under the supervision of Dr. Hassan Al-Qambar, a consultant in general surgery, thoracic surgery, and endoscopy, successfully extracted a pin from the trachea of a 6-year-old boy and a 25-year-old woman.
The boy arrived at the hospital's thoracic surgery department suffering from blood-streaked coughing, with his family unaware of the cause despite visiting numerous hospitals in the region without reaching a correct diagnosis. A chest X-ray revealed a large pin lodged in his trachea. An endoscopy was immediately performed, and the pin was successfully removed from the boy's trachea, with the assistance of Dr. Mohamed Ayoub, an anesthesiology consultant. Thankfully, the procedure was completed without complications.
In the same month, a 25-year-old woman visited the hospital, complaining of inhaling a pin she had placed in her mouth while wearing a hijab, which accidentally got inhaled and lodged in her left trachea. The patient was prepared for surgery, and a rigid tracheoscopy was performed to remove the pin.The woman recovered superbly and was discharged from the hospital the following day.
It is worth noting that airway surgeries are complex procedures requiring a specialized medical team and specific surgical tools. Al-Mouwasat Hospitals are distinguished for providing this service at the highest level.
