Successful Total Thyroidectomy Surgery at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam
The surgical team at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam has recently successfully performed a total thyroidectomy to remove an enlarged thyroid gland that extended into the patient's chest cavity.
The patient was examined at the General Surgery Clinic by Dr. Mohammed Qasim, Consultant General Surgeon. The patient had been experiencing difficulty swallowing and breathing. After conducting the necessary medical examinations, it was revealed that there was a significant enlargement of the thyroid gland, causing deviation of the trachea and compression of the esophagus. CT scans also indicated that the enlargement extended into the chest cavity, with direct contact with the main aortic artery and major chest veins.
After the diagnosis, the medical team, consisting of an anesthesiologist, a consultant general surgeon, as well as a vascular and respiratory therapy consultant, gathered and developed a surgical plan. Thanks to the grace of god and the skills of our doctors, the surgical procedure was successful, and the patient recovered and was discharged from the hospital only two days after the surgery.
This accomplishment reflects Al-Mouwasat Medical Services' commitment to providing the best medical services with the highest safety standards for all patients, including complex and challenging cases.
