Mouwasat Hospital in Yanbu received a patient suffering from severe pain on the right side, accompanied by urinary retention and blood in the urine, which required a number of medical and diagnostic examinations to determine the cause of the symptoms.
CT scans revealed swelling and enlargement of the right kidney, along with suspicious tissue masses, which required further examinations to determine the nature of these masses and identify the appropriate treatment plan.
To reach an accurate diagnosis before deciding on surgical intervention, the patient underwent an endoscopic procedure using rigid and flexible ureteroscopy. The ureter and the pelvis of the right kidney were accessed, and multiple tissue samples were taken for examination.
Histopathological examination confirmed the presence of a multifocal malignant tissue tumor in the renal pelvis and right ureter, measuring up to 7 cm. This required radical surgical intervention to control the tumor and reduce the possibility of its spread.
The patient underwent a major and delicate surgical procedure during which the right kidney and ureter were removed. After the operation, he was transferred to the Intensive Care Unit, where he underwent close medical monitoring, including observation of vital signs and the function of the remaining kidney.
By the grace of God, followed by accurate medical assessment, surgical planning, and the integrated care received by the patient, his condition began to improve noticeably from the fourth and fifth days after surgery. His bowel function returned to normal, and he gradually began eating and drinking. Inflammatory markers also decreased significantly, while the function of the remaining kidney stabilized, with excellent and clear urine output.
By the seventh day, the patient showed significant improvement. He was fully conscious and stable, with no fever, almost no pain, stable gastrointestinal and kidney functions, and a dry and clean surgical wound. He was therefore ready to complete the discharge process after successfully passing through the surgical and recovery stages.
This success was achieved, by the grace of God first, through the integrated efforts of the medical team and coordination among different specialties, alongside the advanced capabilities, equipment, and specialized professionals provided by Mouwasat Hospital to manage complex surgical cases in accordance with the highest standards of medical quality and safety.
