With the grace of God, the Premature and Newborn Department at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Madinah under the supervision of Dr. Khalil Al-Taweel, the Preterm and Newborn Consultant, managed to treat a baby girl weighing 900 grams, who was born after only 28 weeks of pregnancy, the baby experienced tingling of the radial artery in the hands, disturbance and a severe rise in arterial tension in the upper extremities and parts of the right chest wall and the face on the first day of her birth; which resulted in a severe drop in blood circulation and pallor in color, which included the upper limbs of the fingers to the shoulders and parts of the right side of the chest and forehead. This state of disorder continued repeatedly and intermittently which made the medical team intervene in the diagnosis and treatment of the newborn.

The occurrence of this arterial tension in various parts of the body with this degree of severity after a puncture of the radial artery of a premature baby weighing less than a kilogram is considered one of the very rare cases, and by the grace of God, the girl left the hospital when she weighed one kilo and 800 grams and is in a good health condition.

It is worth noting that this type of care depends on modern medical technology, which is in line with the vision of Al-Mouwasat Medical Services Company to attract talents and delicate sub-specialties through the use of the latest technologies and advanced medical equipment in this field.

Qatif - Mouwasat Hospital

Mouwasat Hospital in Qatif continues to achieve outstanding medical successes in the diagnosis and treatment of gastrointestinal diseases using advanced endoscopic technologies. This comes following the successful diagnosis and management of a complex case involving a 60-year-old patient who had been experiencing rectal bleeding for several months without receiving a clear diagnosis.

A Diagnostic Journey: From Prolonged Symptoms to a Precise Discovery

The patient had visited several hospitals within and outside the region over the course of months, yet no definitive explanation for his recurrent symptoms was identified. Upon arriving at Mouwasat Hospital in Qatif, he was evaluated by the Gastroenterology Clinic team led by Dr. Mahdi Al-Jaroudi, Gastroenterology & Endoscopy Consultant, who conducted a comprehensive assessment while taking into account his chronic respiratory condition and hypertension—factors that required careful medical decision-making.

Based on the initial evaluation, the medical team recommended performing a colonoscopy at the hospital’s Advanced Endoscopy Unit to determine the source of bleeding.

Discovery and Endoscopic Removal of the Lesion

During the colonoscopy, the medical team discovered a large polyp measuring 4.5 cm inside the colon. Thanks to the expertise of the specialized team and the advanced capabilities of the endoscopy unit, the polyp was completely removed endoscopically without the need for surgical intervention and without any complications—demonstrating the high level of precision and skill in handling such cases.

Pathology Findings: Early-Stage Colon Cancer Successfully Controlled

Pathology results confirmed that the lesion was a cancerous colon tumor. The positive outcome was that the tumor had been fully removed, and all surrounding tissues were completely clear, indicating successful early control of the condition and eliminating the need for further invasive treatments.

Advanced Care Aligned with International Standards

This achievement reflects Mouwasat Hospital in Qatif’s commitment to delivering advanced medical care using state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic endoscopic technologies. The hospital continues to provide high-quality services led by a distinguished team of specialists dedicated to ensuring the best outcomes for patients.

 Dammam – Mouwasat Hospital

Thanks to God, the medical team at Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam succeeded in restoring mobility to a man in his fifties after he had suffered from near-complete paralysis for more than two months as a result of a large tumor located at the base of the skull.

Case Details and Referral to the Hospital

The patient was initially transferred to a major hospital in the region after developing sudden paralysis that left him completely unable to move. MRI imaging revealed a large skull base tumor extending from the middle cranial fossa to the posterior region.
The tumor caused:

  • Severe compression on the brainstem
  • Hydrocephalus (ventricular enlargement)
  • Progressive paralysis of all limbs

Given the complexity of the tumor and the difficulty of its location, the first hospital limited its intervention to inserting a ventriculoperitoneal shunt without performing surgical removal of the tumor. The patient remained bedridden with no noticeable improvement.

Due to the inability of several hospitals inside and outside the region to accept the case, the patient’s company turned to Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam, which immediately accepted him due to its capabilities and specialized expertise in complex neurosurgery.

Medical Evaluation and Treatment Plan

Upon arrival, the clinical examination showed near-complete paralysis and total dependence on a urinary catheter. Image-guided MRI revealed that the tumor was compressing the brainstem and cranial nerves and was located near highly critical blood vessels.
The medical team explained a comprehensive treatment plan that included complete removal of the tumor and removal of the shunt after the surgery’s success.

Brain Tumor Resection Surgery

The surgery was performed by a specialized medical team of neurosurgeons. The procedure lasted 12 hours, during which the anesthesia team played a pivotal role in maintaining stable vital signs throughout the surgery despite previous surgical interventions in the area.
By the grace of God, the tumor was completely removed, and the shunt was taken out. The patient was then transferred to the neuro-intensive care unit for close monitoring.

Recovery and Rehabilitation After Surgery

After the patient’s condition stabilized, MRI scans confirmed the complete removal of the tumor. The patient began gradually regaining movement, showing clear improvement in limb strength, which positively impacted his psychological well-being.
He also began a physiotherapy program at the hospital’s rehabilitation center, and he is expected to return to his normal life and work upon completing the rehabilitation plan.

Appreciation to Mouwasat

The company’s manager and several administrators visited the hospital administration to express their gratitude and appreciation to the medical and administrative teams for their tremendous efforts and high professionalism in handling the case.
Mouwasat’s Commitment to Medical Excellence
This success reflects Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam’s capability to perform highly complex neurosurgical operations using the latest advanced technologies, in line with Mouwasat Medical Services Company’s vision of attracting global expertise and providing the best healthcare services according to the highest standards.
