Saving the Life of an Elderly Woman, a Complex and High-Precision Surgery at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam
The medical team at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam successfully saved the life of a 70-year-old woman who was suffering from a large perforation in the duodenum, the first section of the small intestine, through a complex and high-precision surgery.
The patient arrived at the hospital in a critical condition due to a large perforation in the second part of the duodenum, exceeding 4 cm in diameter. Dr. Mohamed Qasem, Consultant General Surgeon, immediately performed an urgent exploratory laparotomy and repaired the perforation.
Given the severity and complexity of the case, advanced and intricate surgical techniques were employed. The duodenum was excluded and diverted outside the body, and a gastric bypass was performed in an attempt to protect the initial repair from leakage and to minimize the risk of postoperative complications.
The patient was then transferred to the intensive care unit to continue treatment. Thankfully, her condition gradually improved until the perforation fully healed and the digestive system's functions were fully restored without any complications.
It is noteworthy that this type of surgery relies on modern medical technology, which aligns with the vision of Al-Mouwasat Medical Services Company in attracting highly specialized talents and utilizing the latest advanced medical techniques and equipment in this field.
