The patient arrived at the emergency department complaining of severe abdominal swelling, difficulty breathing, frequent vomiting, and a change in the degree of consciousness. She also suffers from severe hypotension and rapid heartbeat with a high temperature.
After examining the girl and making the necessary x-rays, it was found that there was a blockage in the intestines with a twisting of the colon.
The patient was resuscitated in the Pediatric Intensive Care Department by the Pediatric Consultant to control the pressure and give intravenous fluids and antibiotics, then she was transferred to the operating room, where an emergency surgical procedure was performed for her and by opening the abdomen, it was found that there was a torsion at the end of the large intestine (sigmoid colon) with gangrene in this part. From the intestine, an excision of this part was made and a temporary opening was made and the lower part of the large colon was closed.
Then the patient was transferred to the Pediatric Intensive Care Department, where she continued to be revived, monitored, and given medications under the supervision of the Pediatric Intensive Care Consultant and Pediatric Surgery Consultant Dr. Samia Belhassen
