Ending the suffering of a seventy-year-old patient with limb weakness and urinary incontinence using cement injection technology at Al-Mouwasat Hospital Madinah
The Neurosurgery and Spine Surgery Department at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Madinah was able to relieve the pain of a 72-year-old patient who had been unable to control his four limbs and bladder for over three months while laying in bed, thanks to Allah's mercy and success.
Due to clinical signs of pressure on the cervical spinal cord and root nerves, as well as a fracture in the thoracic vertebrae, he underwent computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) on his cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine upon his arrival at the hospital's emergency department.
Based on the test results, Dr. Magdy El-Hawary, a consultant in neurosurgery, spine surgery, and spinal column, developed a treatment plan that included three surgical interventions and a limited non-surgical intervention using medical cement injection to treat the fractured vertebrae after inflating a balloon that lifts the compressed vertebra, followed by injecting medical cement to support the vertebra and relieve back pain caused by the fracture. It is worth emphasizing that the three surgical operations were completed in a single session lasting no more than 5 hours.
After many interventions, the patient began a rehabilitation journey with the weak muscle rehabilitation team, and after laying in bed for more than three months, he began to sit inside and outside the bed within a week.
These surgical operations are considered high-precision and difficult treatments, which correspond with Al-Mouwasat Medical Services Company's objective of attracting precise medical competences and specializations while delivering cutting-edge medical technology and equipment.
