The medical team at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Riyadh has successfully saved the life of another patient. This patient was complaining about continuous urinary bleeding and pain in their left side. It was determined through testing that this was due to a tumor in the left kidney.

After being transferred from another hospital in Riyadh, the necessary medical tests were performed. It was determined that the patient needed a partial kidney removal surgery.

Due to the patient's extreme obesity and diabetes, which made the surgery difficult and risky, the case was presented to a specialized team in kidney and urinary tract tumor surgery, under the supervision of Dr. Eli Ayoub, a consultant in urology.

The patient was prepared and underwent a laparoscopic radical kidney and tumor removal surgery, which is one of the latest techniques that offers fewer complications, faster recovery, and natural life resumption without the need for open surgery. This type of surgery requires high experience and advanced equipment to ensure the patient's safety. Thankfully, the patient was discharged from the hospital in excellent and stable condition, with confirmation of improvement and the preservation of kidney function.

Such surgeries are extremely precise and complex. This falls in line with Al-Mouwasat Medical Services Company's vision to provide the highest levels of medical technologies, specialized professionals, and top-of-line medical care for all of our patients

Riyadh: Mouwasat Hospital

In a new medical achievement reflecting a high level of expertise in managing critical cases, the cardiac surgery team at Mouwasat Hospital in Riyadh successfully saved the life of a patient suffering from one of the most serious complications of an acute heart attack. The patient was treated through an integrated medical and surgical intervention involving several specialties.

Acute Heart Attack Complicated by Ventricular Septal Rupture

The patient arrived at the hospital in critical condition after suffering an acute heart attack involving the coronary arteries, which resulted in an acute ventricular septal rupture.

Ventricular Septal Rupture is a rare and serious complication of myocardial infarction. In this case, it resulted in acute cardiogenic shock and severe pulmonary edema, requiring urgent medical intervention to save the patient’s life.

Coronary Angioplasty and Stent Placement

The patient’s treatment began with an immediate intervention by the cardiac catheterization team led by Dr. Saleh Al-Ghufaili, Consultant in Interventional Cardiology.

A successful therapeutic cardiac catheterization procedure was performed, and coronary stents were inserted to restore blood flow to the heart muscle.

Due to the severity of the patient’s condition, circulatory support was provided using an Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump to help improve the heart’s pumping efficiency and enhance blood circulation.

Intensive Care to Prepare the Patient for Surgery

The intensive care team, led by Dr. Haitham Othman, Consultant and Head of the Intensive Care Department, closely monitored the patient’s condition for two weeks.

The medical team implemented a precise treatment plan aimed at stabilizing the functions of the heart and other vital organs and preparing the patient to undergo surgery with the highest possible level of safety.

Complex Surgery to Repair the Rupture and Reconstruct the Left Ventricle

Following the stabilization of the patient’s condition, the cardiac surgery team led by Dr. Waleed Al-Ayyad, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, performed a complex and high-risk surgical procedure with the participation of:

  • Dr. Mohamed Ali, Cardiac Surgery Specialist.
  • Dr. Adel Al-Jabali, Consultant in Cardiac Anesthesia.

The procedure involved repairing the ventricular septal rupture and reconstructing the left ventricle that had been damaged by the heart attack. Advanced surgical techniques and approaches were used with the aim of restoring the efficiency of the heart muscle and improving its function.

Patient Recovery Following Heart Surgery

By the grace of God, and through the integration of the cardiac catheterization, intensive care, anesthesia, and cardiac surgery teams, the procedure was completed successfully, and the patient recovered well.

The patient was transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to the inpatient ward only one week after surgery in a stable condition to continue his treatment and rehabilitation program.

The Importance of Early Intervention and Multidisciplinary Care

This case highlights the importance of rapid diagnosis and early treatment of acute heart attacks, as well as the essential role of multidisciplinary collaboration in managing complex cardiac complications. This integrated approach can contribute to improving the chances of survival and achieving better treatment outcomes.

Mouwasat Hospital in Riyadh continues to strengthen its capabilities in treating heart diseases and performing complex cardiac procedures by attracting specialized medical professionals and providing advanced therapeutic technologies and equipment. This approach supports Mouwasat Medical Services Company’s commitment to delivering advanced healthcare in accordance with quality and patient safety standards.

Mouwasat Hospital in Riyadh Successfully Saves a Patient’s Life After an Acute Heart Attack and Serious Complications

In a new medical achievement, the Cardiac Surgery team at Mouwasat Hospital in Riyadh successfully saved the life of a patient who arrived at the hospital in critical condition following an acute heart attack that resulted in a ventricular septal defect, accompanied by cardiogenic shock and severe pulmonary congestion, which are among the serious complications that may occur following myocardial infarction.

The patient’s treatment journey began with an urgent intervention by the cardiac catheterization team under the supervision of Dr. Saleh Alghofaili, Consultant Interventional Cardiologist. A successful therapeutic catheterization procedure was performed, during which stents were placed in the coronary arteries to restore blood flow to the heart muscle.

Due to the severe deterioration in blood circulation, cardiac function was supported using an Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump to help improve blood pumping and enhance cardiac perfusion. Afterwards, the Intensive Care team, led by Dr. Haitham Othman, Consultant and Head of the Intensive Care Department, closely and intensively monitored the patient’s condition for two weeks until the patient stabilized and became ready for surgical intervention.

After the patient’s condition stabilized, the Cardiac Surgery team, under the supervision of Dr. Waleed Alayadhi, Consultant Cardiac Surgeon, and with the participation of Dr. Mohamed Ali, Cardiac Surgery Specialist, and Dr. Adel Al-Jabali, Consultant Cardiac Anesthesiologist, performed a high-risk surgical procedure that included closing the ventricular septal defect and reconstructing the damaged part of the left ventricle caused by the heart attack, using advanced surgical techniques aimed at improving the efficiency of the heart muscle and restoring its functions.

By the grace of God, the operation was successful, and the patient showed good improvement in his health condition. He was transferred from the Intensive Care Unit to the inpatient ward one week after the operation in stable condition to complete the remaining stages of treatment and rehabilitation.

This success highlights the importance of integration among various medical specialties in managing critical and complex cardiac cases, starting with catheterization and intensive care and extending to cardiac surgery and anesthesia.

It also reflects Mouwasat Medical Services Company’s commitment to providing specialized medical expertise and subspecialties, alongside the latest technologies and equipment, enhancing its ability to manage critical and complex cases and provide patients with the best opportunities for treatment.
