Mouwasat Al-Dammam Saves a Thirty-year-old Citizen by Removing a Large Tumor from the Heart Cavity
A rare case of a 30-year-old who suffered a severe stroke caused by a large tumor inside the heart cavity extending from the left atrium to the left ventricle and reaching a length of up to twelve centimeters and a width of five centimeters, had caused a blockage in the mitral valve (mitral valve). The patient has been transformed by ambulance urgently to Mouwasat Hospital, Dammam.
The details of the case were discussed among the consultants of cardiology, cardiac catheterization, and cardiac and neurosurgery upon arrival at Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam, in order to make an immediate decision on the need for urgent surgical intervention to remove the tumor. As the delay in taking a surgical procedure leads to other successive clots that threaten the patient's life.
The head of the medical team who supervised the procedure, the consultant cardiac surgeon, Dr.Khaled Al-Khamis, pointed out the scarcity of such a health disorder, as it affects one person out of every two million people in the world, which in turn requires unique experience and huge health facilities capable of performing this type of operation.
It is worth noting that the patient has recovered completely, and was able to leave the hospital after only four days of the surgical procedure, which confirms the safety of procedures and professionalism of work at the hospital.
The Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam is the first hospital in the Middle East to obtain center accreditation of excellence in treating heart diseases from the US Heart University. In addition, it is the first hospital outside the United States of America to obtain accreditation from the American Heart University in the cardiac catheterization unit.
