The origin of Al-Mouwasat dates back to 1975, with the launching of Al-Mouwasat Dispensary in Dammam - the first private medical clinic in that region. In 1979, Al-Mouwasat undertook the operation and the administration of the clinics in the residential area of Al-Jubail industrial city, through a 9-year operation contract amounting to more than SAR 400 million with Bektel Arab Co. and the Royal Commission for Al-Jubail and Yanbu.

In 1984, Al-Mouwasat established its first owned comprehensive medical facility which was named Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Dammam. The construction cost of this project exceeded SAR 130 million, and actual operation started in 1988. This start is considered to be the real start of the Company and the corner stone which led to establishing other Al-Mouwasat medical facilities Kingdom-wide. Establishing Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Jubail was accomplished through two phases, the first phase witnessed completing the outpatient clinics, while the Company developed the inpatient department of the hospital in the second phase. Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Jubail is considered an ideal example for private sector hospitals due to its unique architectural design, its advanced medical supplies and equipment in use, and its operating efficiency. The year 2004 was a milestone in the history of Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Jubail as it achieved a utilization ratio of 100%.

During 2000, the Company started operating Al-Mouwasat Medical Dispensary in Al-Ahsa, and Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Madina through a rental contract with a duration of twenty years. Also, the Company entered into an agreement with United Development Company Limited (SUDC) in 2003 to operate and administer Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Riyadh.

Today, the medical network of Al-Mouwasat covers the main cities in the Kingdom including Dammam, Riyadh, Al-Qatif, Al-Khobar, Jubail, Madina, and Al-Ahsa.

The Company strictly applies clear and specific standards, criteria, and procedures pertaining to operations and human resources. In addition, the Company adopts a clear strategy to continuously develop these standards, policies, and procedures through benefiting from the local and international experience in the medical field. Likewise, Al-Mouwasat undertakes a continuous advancement of its medical equipment and systems to bring them in line with international standards and up-to-date technology. Recently, Al-Mouwasat commenced a process to obtain certification from the American Joint Commission International (JCI) for its hospitals. The relevant procedures started for Al-Mouwasat hospital in Dammam, and in December 2006 the final requirements were completed and all prerequisites were met. Al-Mouwasat hospital in Dammam is the third JCI accredited hospital in the Kingdom.

The company plans to obtain the JCI accreditation for its other hospitals. Al-Mouwasat believes that accreditation of Company's hospitals is another success that strengthens the Company's position in the healthcare industry in the Kingdom and will certainly add to its distinguished quality medical services.


AL-MOUWASAT HOSPITALS

Al-Mouwasat hospitals are distinguished models due to their locations, capacities, furnitures and equipments. In General, Al-Mouwasat hospitals provide all medical services through their outpatient clinics including internal medicine, gynecology, pediatrics, orthopedics, dermatology, venereology, general surgery, ophthalmology, ENT, cardiology, vasculars, psychiatry, dentistry, plastic surgery, rheumatism, physiotherapy etc.

The hospitals receive emergency and accident cases through emergency rooms along the 24 hours. The inpatient departments are equipped with the most advanced medical technologies to treat inpatient cases. These rooms include operation rooms, birth rooms, and intensive care units for adults and infants, which also work for 24 hours a day. The inpatient rooms are divided into shared rooms with a capacity of two beds, and private rooms with a single bed, in addition to the executive suits, with varied services.

All hospitals have integrated medical laboratories and radiology departments equipped with the latest and most advanced medical systems such as magnetic radiation equipment, vascular color ultrasound, breast and jaws scanning equipment, and ultrasounds, in addition to cardiac catharsis and helping devices in cardiac and arteries' diseases.

Additionally, Al-Mouwasat offers advanced medical services in the ophthalmic and ENT divisions in Dammam hospital through collaboration with Magrabi Hospitals & Centers, which in turn is part of several agreements signed with Wilmer Institution, John Hopkins University, USA.

Al-Mouwasat has several cooperation agreements with various international medical bodies with the purpose of providing required medical services. These cooperative agreements allow the Company benefit from international expertise, and help boosting its medical services in terms of latest available services and applied treatments in the medical field. These bodies include:

  • Parkway Healthcare Group, Singapore
  • King Hussein Medical City, Jordan.

Such joint agreements make it possible to exchange knowledge and experiences, through inviting international consultants to the Kingdom to undertake surgeries and offer suggestions in developing the medical and operational systems and training the professionals in different related fields.


AL-MOUWASAT DISPENSARIES

Al-Mouwasat operates two dispensaries; Al-Mouwasat dispensary in Dammam and Al-Mouwasat dispensary in Al-Ahsa. The basic healthcare services are being offered in these two clinics through outpatient clinics and emergency unit working 24 hours 7 days a week. Further, the clinics also provide radiology and laboratory services to the patients, in addition to pharmaceutical services in both dispensaries.

Eastern Medical Services Company


Al-Mouwasat recently acquired 51% of the Eastern Medical Services Company, "Eastern Company", which owns Gulf Specialized Hospital, on 28 Jumada Athani 1427H (corresponding to 24 July 2006), with an investment cost of SAR 28,560,000. Eastern Company is a Saudi limited liability company registered in Al-Khobar under commercial registration number2051023824 , issued on 10 Ramdan 1420H (corresponding to 18 December 1999). The main business activities of Eastern Company is to own, establish, and maintain hospitals, clinics, medical centers, drugs warehouses, and pharmacies.

Gulf Specialized Hospital (now known as Al-Mouwasat Hospital in Qatif) is considered an ideal hospital. It includes 120 beds, and characterized by its excellent location, modern buildings, and developed distinguishing supplies. The Company believes that the location of the hospital, being the sole hospital in Al-Qatif will add to its competitive advantage and it will offer the company an excellent opportunity to increase its market share and widen its customer base.
